该药物存在一些副作用，[1]例如血细胞水平低、恶心以及使电解质平衡紊乱。[3][1]其它严重的副作用还包括过敏反应，以及增加了将来患癌风险。[1]孕期使用会对婴儿造成伤害，卡铂在铂基抗肿瘤药物中，通过干扰DNA的复制而发挥作用。[1][4]

医疗用途

卡铂通常被用作于治疗多种形式的癌症，例如：肺癌，卵巢癌，头颈癌，脑癌和神经母细胞瘤等。它也可以被用于治疗某些形式的睾丸癌，但是顺铂通常更为有效[5]。

卡铂相比于顺铂，最大的好处是其副作用减小，尤其是肾毒性的减小，恶心和呕吐也变得不再那么剧烈。

卡铂的主要缺点是其骨髓抑制作用。这导致体内骨髓的血细胞和血小板输出显着下降，有时低至其正常生产水平的10％。这种骨髓抑制的最低点通常发生在首次治疗后的21–28天，此后血液中的血细胞和血小板水平开始稳定，通常接近其卡铂前的水平。这减少了白血细胞（白细胞减少）可引起并发症，有时用药物治疗一样非格司亭。中性粒细胞减少症最显着的并发症是机会性生物体感染的可能性增加，这需要住院再入院并用抗生素治疗。
