肺鱼亚纲 （學名 ：Dipnomorpha ）或称 肺鱼形类 ，是一支原始的肉鳍鱼 ，出现在距今约 4 亿年前，和腔棘魚綱 同为现存最古老的肉鳍鱼类，也是慣常稱為「魚」的動物中，和四足类动物 （哺乳類 、鳥類 、爬蟲 、两栖類 等）關係最親近者。一些研究认为孔鳞鱼目 可能演化自肺鱼，因此广义的肺鱼包含孔鳞鱼目，而在不包含该目的情况下，通常将肺鱼表述为 肺鱼总目 （Dipnoi）或角齿鱼总目 （Ceratodontae）[1]

化石纪录 显示，肺鱼在 2 亿年前的三叠纪 种类相当丰富，广泛分布于南半球 冈瓦纳大陆 的淡水区，后由于环境变化等因素，大多数种类都已灭绝，仅非洲 、南美洲 和澳洲 的 3 科 6 种 肺鱼存活至今，被称为“活化石 ”[2]
肺鱼平时用鳃 呼吸，在水涸時可用鰾 当作肺 来呼吸，膘在食道 处有一开口，可称作内鼻孔。颌 上无硬骨，有特殊的齿板。背鳍、臀鳍和尾鳍愈合在一起，部分种类的胸鳍和腹鳍略似陆地四足类动物的脚。

下级分类 现存的 6 种 肺鱼均为淡水鱼 ，可分为 2 个目 ：
角齿鱼目 澳洲肺鱼 ，产自澳大利亚 昆士兰州 ，因而常称为昆士兰肺鱼。这种肺鱼体长约 1 米，只有一个鳔 。美洲肺鱼目 鳞片 细小，体呈鳗鱼 般的长条状，有两个对称的鳔。包含 2 科 ，即美洲肺鱼科（1 屬 1 种）与非洲肺鱼科 （1 属 4 种）。
生活习性 肺鱼主要生存于热带淡水水域。所栖息的部分河流（如非洲 的河流）在夏天會乾涸，成為乾裂的泥地，直到秋天雨季到來，河流才重新恢復生機。在旱季，肺魚為了生存会鑽進河床 下蜷縮起來，並使所在洞穴充滿粘液为身体保湿。依靠這種方法，肺魚能在沒有水和食物且只有極少氧气 的條件下，安然度過整個夏季。[5]
肺鱼是杂食性动物 ，主要以鱼类 ，昆虫 ，甲壳类 ，蠕虫 ，软体动物 ，两栖动物 和植物 为食。他们有着螺旋瓣 胃 [6]
