选举日

选举日或投票日是举行大选的日子。许多国家的大选总是在周六或周日举行，以使尽可能多的选民能够参与。而在其他国家，选举总是在工作日举行。但是，一些在工作日举行选举的国家或地区将选举日定为公共假日。有些国家通过允许在选举前通过邮寄方式进行缺席选票、提前投票或邮寄选票的方式让选民更方便的日子投票，从而避免投票日的拥堵。

星期日是最常见的选举日，但在美英等国则不然。新西兰和澳大利亚是周六，美英和加拿大都是工作日。这部分是受新教的影响，它在历史上对安息日（通常被认为是星期日）除去教堂以外的活动设置了限制。 [1]
