柯克伍德环形山

柯克伍德环形山（Kirkwood）是位于月球背面北极区附近的一座大撞击坑，约形成于32-11亿年前的爱拉托逊纪[1]，其名称取美国天文学家丹尼尔·柯克伍德（1814年-1895年），1970年该名称被国际天文学联合会正式接受。

描述

该陨坑西北靠近罗伯茨环形山、东北毗邻古老的希波克拉底环形山，普拉斯基特环形山位于它的东南，西南则坐落了更大的索末菲环形山[2]。该陨坑中心月面坐标为68°20′N 156°40′W / 68.34°N 156.66°W / 68.34; -156.66，直径68.12公里[3]，深约2.75公里[1]。

柯克伍德环形山外观大体圆形，但边缘较为参差，尤其是西南侧显示有一些轻微的刻痕。陨坑整体轮廓清晰，没覆盖有任何的撞击坑，内壁部分地区已坍塌滑落，形成了一些醒目的阶坡状结构。它的坑壁最大高出周边地形1270米[1]，内部容积约4087.35立方千米[1]。除西北部外，坑内表面崎岖不平，坑底中心坐落有数座由斜长岩构成的低矮山丘。
