木鼻白蟻科 （Stylotermitidae）親緣關係介於木白蟻科 和鼻白蟻科 之間，為過渡類群。舊時曾被歸於鼻白蟻科之下[1] [2] Prostylotermes )、似木鼻白蟻屬 (Parastylotermes )、及木鼻白蟻屬 (Stylotermes )，其中木鼻白蟻屬是唯一現存的屬，另外兩屬已滅絕[3]

除分子生物學證據顯示其親緣關係介於木白蟻科與鼻白蟻科外，其形態特徵也介於兩者之間，木鼻白蟻屬的兵蟻形態接近木白蟻科，但其擁有鼻白蟻科有，而木白蟻科沒有的特徵：窗點 (fontanelle)[1]
