尽管在发行《Born to Die》后曾否认会继续发行专辑，Lana Del Rey在2013年却开始了下张专辑的策划制作，一直持续到2014年。在此过程中，她与Dan Auerbach（英语：Dan Auerbach）合作来修改她最初对整张专辑制作的想法。同时她也得到了其他一些制作人的帮助，包括Paul Epworth（英语：Paul Epworth）、格萊格·科爾斯汀以及Rick Nowels（英语：Rick Nowels）。

背景与制作

2012年，在《Born to Die》发行后，Lana Del Rey否认了会发行下一张专辑，因为她“已经说出了她所有想说的话”^[4]。但到了2013年2月，Lana Del Rey开始了新专辑的制作，她说道：“它少了一些花哨，但仍然很黑暗，很有电影风格。我已经在制作中了，虽然真的很慢，但是我对我做的所有都感到很满意。我一直在圣莫尼卡写歌，也想好了这张专辑的大致框架，现在就需要完成了。音乐上我也在和其他三个人合作。”^[5]她提到了其中一首歌的名字是Black Beauty。当这首歌的demo版在7月释出后，Lana Del Rey说：“我感觉真的很沮丧。我确实不知道这张专辑该放上什么才好。我想我可以就把它们放上去，然后再看会发生什么。每次我写歌的时候……我永远不会写一首对这张专辑而言并不算完美的歌。”^[6]她也说她正在写“低沉而简单”的音乐，同时在与Dan Heath、她的前男友Barrie-James O'Neill合作，以及她想让Lou Reed也参与其中^[6]。

到了2014年1月，有传言Lana Del Rey与Dan Auerbach（英语：Dan Auerbach）在位于纳什维尔的Auerbach's Easy Eye Sound录音棚里一起工作，后者据称正在制作Lana Del Rey即将到来的新专辑。^[9]

作品与发行日期

2013年12月4日，在Tropico的首映式上，Lana Del Rey向观众解释说她“真的希望能和大家见面”，“所以我可以尝试以视觉的方式在发布新专《Ultraviolence》前结束《Born to Die》及《Paradise》这一章。”^[13]媒体从安东尼·伯吉斯1962年所著的反乌托邦中篇小说《发条橙》来解读这个新专名称（因该书中出现过这个词），尽管最初的报道在是按传统方式将专辑名称取为一字式“Ultraviolence”还是取为两字式“Ultra Violence”上起了分歧^[14]。2014年2月，她提到了新专可能在5月1日发行^[15] ，尽管后来她在5月5日蒙特利尔的演唱会上声称专辑会在下个月发行^[16]。

5月8日，Ultraviolence11曲普通版和14曲豪华版的曲目列表释出^[17]。14日，专辑封面图释出，从这张黑白图上可以看到Lana Del Rey身着一件白色薄T恤以及一件白色无吊带胸罩，倚靠在她的梅赛德斯-奔驰380SL车旁，和Born to Die、Paradise的封面图一样，标题“Ultraviolence”为全大写字体，被放在了图片底端^[18]。同时也确认了专辑会于6月17日在美国发行^[19]，包括传统CD、数字音乐下载、黑胶格式，以及超豪华盒装，它以金属黑箔来覆盖了标题Ultraviolence，内含豪华版彩胶两张、豪华版双CD、四张大版画^[20] 。另外还有Urban Outfitters（英语：Urban Outfitters）版，这个版本独占Ultraviolence普通版彩胶，也使用了不同的封面——对Lana Del Rey膝盖的特写镜头，同时她身穿着破布牛仔，手上拿着一缕从牛仔上撕下的布绳^[21]。

本专辑以182,000張的銷量空降美國告示牌二百強專輯榜冠軍，成為她在美國的首張冠軍專輯。而且在英國、澳洲、加拿大等共12國皆獲得冠軍排名。定且專輯在一個月內全球賣出100萬份,出貨量突破250萬份。
