叢林流浪 (澳大利亞民謠)
《叢林流浪》（英文：Waltzing Matilda）是澳洲最廣為人知的叢林民謠（bush ballad），也被稱為該國的「非官方國歌」。[1]

歌名的意思是帶著睡袋（Matilda）徒步流浪（Waltzing）[2]。歌詞講述了一位四處游走的流浪漢（swagman）在一個河跡湖（billabong）邊露營時的故事。他先是煮了一杯茶（billy tea）喝，然後抓了正好途經的一隻羊（jumbuck）；但是不久，羊的主人，一位有錢有勢的地主（squatter）和三位警察（trooper）就來抓捕偷羊的流浪漢；無處可逃的流浪漢最終跳進湖中自我了結。
此歌曲原詞由澳洲詩人班卓·帕特森（Banjo Paterson）寫於1895年，但直到1903年才首次發行樂譜。一直以來，有很多民間傳說講述此歌曲及其創作歷程。昆士蘭州邊遠地區的溫特小鎮（Winton，即帕特森最初作詞的地方）有名為「叢林流浪中心」（Waltzing Matilda Centre）的博物館，專門介紹這首歌的故事和傳說。[3]2012年，為了紀念此歌曲，溫特鎮將4月6日（即此歌曲首次公開演唱之日）設立為「叢林流浪日」（Waltzing Matilda Day）。[4][5]
《叢林流浪》的首份錄音帶錄製於1926年，由約翰·科林森（John Collinson）和羅素·卡洛（Russell Callow）演唱[6]。2008年，這份錄音帶被加入澳洲國立影音館（National Film and Sound Archive）的「澳洲之聲」（Sounds of Australia）錄音集。據影音館資料，《叢林流浪》是澳洲音樂史上錄音帶數量最多的一首歌。[4]
歷史
1895年8月，澳洲詩人班卓·帕特森（Banjo Paterson）在昆士蘭州中部的達格沃斯農場（Dagworth Station）寫下了《叢林流浪》的歌詞[7]，並沿用了當時由農場主人之一克里斯蒂娜·麥克弗森（Christina Macpherson）彈奏的曲調[8][9]。麥克弗森後來稱，她當時是在憑著回憶彈奏1894年4月曾聽到軍樂隊演奏的 《克雷基里進行曲》（The Craigielee March）。[10][11]
1818年，蘇格蘭作曲家詹姆斯·巴爾（James Barr）為羅伯特·塔納希爾（Robert Tannahill）1806年的詩《Thou Bonnie Wood of Craigielee》創作了配樂[12]。到了1890年代初，澳洲作曲家托馬斯·布爾奇（Thomas Bulch）重新編排了這首配樂，成為銅管樂隊演奏的《克雷基里進行曲》[10]。
通常認為，此歌曲源自以下事件[13]：
1891年，昆士蘭羊毛工大罷工（Great Shearers' Strike）導致全州陷入內戰邊緣。總理（Premier of Queensland）被迫下令軍隊出動，才最終平息暴亂。1894年9月，達格沃斯農場周邊的一些羊毛工再次企圖罷工，武裝衝突再次爆發。罷工的工人對天開槍，還在羊毛棚裡放火，燒死了數十隻羊。正當局勢激烈起來，農場主人連同三名警察前去追捕其中一名罷工的工人塞繆爾·霍夫邁斯特（Samuel Hoffmeister）。此人據傳是來自巴達維亞的移民，小名叫「Frenchy」[14][15]。1894年9月2日中午12點30分，在南部的一條小溪邊，霍夫邁斯特無處可逃，即將被俘虜，於是吞槍自盡。
據傳，農場主人鮑勃·麥克弗森（Bob Macpherson）曾經和帕特森（Paterson）一起在農場附近騎馬，經過 Combo Waterhole 時，麥克弗森講了這個關於罷工和放火的故事[10]。
《叢林流浪》本身是首次於1895年4月6日由赫伯特·拉姆齊爵士（Sir Herbert Ramsay）在昆士蘭州溫頓的北格雷戈里酒店（North Gregory Hotel）為當時的昆士蘭州總理演唱的。據ABC新聞報導，2012年，特雷弗·蒙蒂（Trevor Monti）律師翻查了歌曲背後罷工事件的調查紀錄，認為當時警方對霍夫邁斯特之死的調查疑點重重。報導進一步認為，霍夫邁斯特之死更像是一場黑社會式暗殺，而帕特森最初寫作歌詞的時候很可能是想用隱晦的方式紀錄和比喻當時的政治環境[16]。

Glossary
《叢林流浪》歌詞中有許多很少使用的澳洲英語特色俚語。比如：
- waltzing
- 來自德語「auf der Walz」，表示四處遊走向不同的師傅學習工藝技術
- Matilda
- 流浪漢旅行袋的浪漫稱呼，來源尚不明確。一般認為工人四處流浪時會舉行聚會，但是很少有舞伴，所以就將旅行袋想象為一個伴侶，取一個女性的名字。根據澳洲國立圖書館記載，Matilda在條頓語中意為「凶猛的戰鬥女郎」，會陪伴流浪者四處闖蕩，就像妻子一樣。[18]
地位
1998年5月，在澳洲兩百年紀念會（Australian Bicentenary）上，澳洲大陸表演家權利協會（Australasian Performing Right Association）首席執行官頒布了5項鉑金獎予「對澳洲文化做出重大且持久影響的作家」，其中一項給予了《叢林流浪》的作詞人。[19][20]
官方使用
《叢林流浪》從未被官方認定為澳洲國歌，但在一些場合上被當作國歌般使用。
1977年，澳洲舉行公投確立國歌，《叢林流浪》作為選項之一，獲得了28%的選票，超越《天佑女王》（19%）和《澳洲之歌》（Song of Australia）（10%），但不敵《前進澳洲美之國》的43%。[21]
2003年起，部分澳洲護照內頁以微型字體印有《叢林流浪》的歌詞。[22]
體育
1982年英聯邦運動會在布里斯本舉行，其吉祥物就是名為「Matilda」的一隻袋鼠。在開幕儀式上，澳洲歌手羅爾夫·哈里斯（Rolf Harris）演唱《叢林流浪》歌曲，伴隨身高達13米的Matilda機械袋鼠出場。[23]
