SOM建築設計事務所（英語：Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP，SOM）是一家美國建築設計事務所，為客戶提供包括建築、室內設計、都市設計、結構工程和土木工程等設計服務[2]。事務所由路易斯·斯基德莫爾和納撒尼爾·奧因斯於1936年在芝加哥創立，1939年後約翰·梅里爾加入。1937年他們在紐約州紐約成立第一家分公司。SOM為世界上最大的建築設計事務所之一，主要設計類型為高層商業大廈，而SOM同時也是領導國際風格與玻璃盒式（glass box）摩天大樓的先驅。

發展概況

許多SOM在戰後在美國的設計作品成為著名的現代建築，包括1950年位於紐約的曼哈頓公寓（英语：Manhattan House），1952年位於紐約的利华大厦，1958年位於科羅拉多泉的美国空军学院学员礼拜堂，1969年位於芝加哥的約翰·漢考克中心，以及1973年位於芝加哥的威利斯大廈。

建築師

工程師

SOM早期的工程師主要為約翰·梅里爾（英语：John O. Merrill）[20]。20世紀後，SOM主要的工程師為法茲勒·拉赫曼，他被公認為是20世紀下半葉最偉大的結構工程師，其著名設計最品為約翰·漢考克中心與威利斯大廈，而拉赫曼作品的結構系統，之後多應用在高層建築工程上。[21]事實上，多虧拉赫曼發展出新的建築演算法，讓約翰·漢考克中心與其他摩天大樓得以順利興建。SOM另一位著名的工程師是威廉·貝克（英语：William F. Baker (engineer)），他著名的作品是目前世界上最高的摩天大樓哈里發塔，他開發了以核心為六角形，三個扶壁組成丫型結構的『扶壁式核心』（buttressed core）系統[22]，幫助哈里發塔在較小的佔用空間下能夠維持828公尺的高度。

室內設計師

戴維斯·艾倫（英语：Davis Allen）是SOM團隊內最知名的室內設計師，他在SOM任職40年。[23]

獲得獎項

SOM至今已獲得1,700座品質與創新的獎項[24]，而自1998年以來，已獲得超過900座獎項[25]。在1962年與1996年，SOM獲得美國建築師協會國家建築師事務所榮譽[26]，目前只有SOM唯一獲得該獎項兩次。

2009年8月，SOM獲得4座建築師雜誌頒發的R+D獎項。[27][28][29][30]另外，SOM在與合作夥伴壬色列理工學院所完成的科學、生態學、與建築中心（英语：Center for Architecture, Science and Ecology）下，在同時間內獲得第5座獎項。[31]

SOM已完成的設計作品超過10,000項，並且分布在超過50個國家。目前SOM在芝加哥、紐約、舊金山、華盛頓特區、倫敦、香港、阿布達比、孟買、上海設有辦公室。

哈里發塔是SOM著名設計作品之一，該建築位在阿聯杜拜，在2010年開放後[32][33]，哈里發塔以828公尺建築高度，成為目前世界上最高的摩天大樓[34]。該建築的總建築師為SOM內的亞德里恩·史密斯（英语：Adrian Smith (architect)）[35][36]，威廉·貝克（英语：William F. Baker (engineer)）為首席結構工程師，喬治·埃夫斯塔修（英语：George J. Efstathiou）為執行合夥人。紐約世界貿易中心一號大樓是SOM另一項建設作品，雖然SOM在設計競賽中撤回設計作品，但SOM仍然獲得建設合同。最後該建築設計師為丹尼爾·里伯斯金，由SOM執行建設計畫。SOM另外在舊金山使命灣 (舊金山)（英语：Mission Bay, San Francisco）北部有Beacon大型複合公寓社區計畫。

除了建築設計服務外，SOM也將服務擴大到都市計畫領域。其代表案件在20世紀70年代，領導BTRT計畫（英语：Boston Transportation Planning Review），重新規劃波士頓整個交通和道路。
