1976年，欧洲人民党作为欧洲政党正式成立。然而欧洲人民党自1953年6月以来就已经存在了，它来自欧洲煤钢共同体的共同大会，是欧洲最古老的一级政治团体之一。自1999年以来，它一直是欧洲议会中最大的政治团体。

历史 编辑

欧洲煤钢共同体（今欧洲议会的前身）的共同大会于1952年9月10日[18]举行了第一次会议，第一个基督教民主团体在第二天非正式成立，由马安·萨森担任主席。[10][19] 该集团在78个席位中占有38席，比绝对多数少两席。[10][20]1953年6月16日，共同大会通过了一项决议[21]，使正式成立政治团体成为可能。1953年6月23日，正式发表了该团体的《组织法宣言》[22]，從而正式成立了该团体。[10][20][23]
