古杯动物门
古杯动物是一门已绝灭的浅海底栖动物，是已知地球上最早的造礁动物，其单体外形酷似杯状，故名“古杯”。古杯动物的归属尚有争议，曾被视为海绵一类的多孔动物，现在一般视为一个独立的动物门──古杯动物门（學名：Archaeocyatha）。该门出现于寒武纪早期，並於晚期灭绝。

古杯动物的化石幾乎全球性分布。故推测和真正的多孔动物门一样，有一个浮游幼虫阶段，使它们得以广泛传播。
演化史 编辑
古杯动物的起源中心以及最早化石被发现于西伯利亚东部，推测时期位于5.25亿年前[1]。在世界其他地区，其出现的时间要晚得多，在寒武纪第三期就迅速发展成一百多个科；[2]是寒武纪早期的指準化石。
5.16亿年前左右，古杯动物的多样性开始急剧下降。几乎所有古杯动物的物种在寒武纪中期灭绝，最后已知的物种（学名：Antarcticocyathus webberi）则在寒武纪结束之前就灭绝了[3]。古杯动物的灭绝与寻常海绵纲动物的迅速多样化相吻合。
在寒武纪早期至中期，古杯动物是主要的造礁生物。古杯动物灭绝后，礁岩（实际上是生物碳酸钙骨骼残骸的堆积）变得非常罕见，直到奥陶纪时期，层孔虫和珊瑚兴起才重新开始造礁[4]。
