霍华德·齐默尔曼

霍华德·艾略特·齐默尔曼（英語：Howard Elliot Zimmerman，1926年7月5日－2012年2月12日），美国化学家，威斯康星大学麦迪逊分校化学教授。^[3]他于1980年入选为美国国家科学院院士^[4]，并于1986年荣获美国化学家协会（AIC）（英语：American Institute of Chemists）化学先驱奖（英语：Chemical Pioneer Award）。^[5][6]

生平

霍华德·齐默尔曼是土生土长的康乃狄克州人。^[7]在第二次世界大战期间，他作为一名坦克炮手，服役于欧洲战场的美军装甲军团（英语：I Armored Corps (United States)）。他最终以技术中士（英语：Technical sergeant）军衔退役。^[8]1950年，他获得了耶鲁大学化学理学学士学位，并在1953年取得了该校的哲学博士学位。^[8]1953年至1954年，他作为美国国家科学研究委员会博士后奖学金研究员，与伍德沃德（哈佛大学)共事。^[8]1954年至1960年，他以助理教授职位供职于西北大学。^[8]1960年后，他调职威斯康星大学副教授，不久升任为正教授。1990年，他获得了威斯康星大学希尔代尔物理科学奖。1991年，获得美国化学会亚瑟·科普学者奖。^[8]他一生共发表了超过285篇论文（11章），并曾在英語维基百科和德語維基百科以「Hezimmerman（英语：User:Hezimmerman）」身份参与创作。

齐默尔曼曾为美国化学会（ACS）开设了关于有机量子化学和分子轨道理论的短期课程，他曾撰写了教科书《有机化学家的量子化学》（1975，Quantunm Mechanics for Organic Chemists）。^[9]他也是1972年IUPAC光化学座谈会（巴登-巴登）和五次环太平洋化学座谈会（最后一次为2010年）的组织者之一。
