詹姆斯·A·加菲爾德遇刺案（英語：Assassination of James A. Garfield）發生在第20任美國總統詹姆斯·艾布拉姆·加菲爾德上任不久的1881年7月2日，當時他在華盛頓哥倫比亞特區中的巴爾的摩及波多馬克鐵路站（英语：Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station）遭到同黨黨員查爾斯·J·古提奧開槍射擊。
加菲尔德上任之初，继续前任总统拉瑟福德·伯查德·海斯开启的改革官员任命的做法，不采用政治分肥，使得不少为共和党竞选有功的人失去了担任公职的机会，引起了党内的纷争。而兇手同黨黨員古提奧在加菲尔德代表共和党竞选总统时，曾撰写演讲稿为加菲尔德拉票，加菲尔德最终以微弱优势胜出当选总统，古提奧认为是他写的文章有助於加菲尔德最終獲勝。根据曾經的政党分肥，吉托要求成为美国的驻外大使，但他的要求被多次拒绝。古提奧也曾与其他许多求职者一样，到白宫以及国务院外排队等候，但再次遭到美國國務卿詹姆斯·G·布萊恩拒絕。多次受挫後引發古提奧強烈不滿，並打算殺死加菲爾德作為報復[3]。1881年7月2日，古提奧在巴爾的摩及波多馬克鐵路站（英语：Baltimore and Potomac Railroad Station）朝加菲尔德总统连开两枪。加菲尔德的手臂和后背被擊中。79日後的9月19日，加菲爾德因槍傷引起的併發症在紐澤西州埃爾伯朗城（英语：Elberon, New Jersey）去世。
