紅超巨星團1

紅超巨星團1 （ RSGC1，Red Supergiant Cluster 1）是在銀河系中的年輕、大質量疏散星團。這個星團是在數次紅外線巡天中於2006年發現的，因有數量空前的紅超巨星成員而據以命名^[3]。這個星團為於盾牌座的方向上，距離太陽大約6.6 kpc。他很可能是銀河系的長棒北端和盾牌-南十字臂交界內部的部分 －兩個主要螺旋臂之一^[4]。

估計RSGC的年齡大約是1,000萬至1,400萬年。星團被嚴重的遮蔽，未能在可見光中檢測到。它靠近其它已知的紅超巨星集團史蒂芬森2、紅超巨星團3和阿利坎特8。估計RSGC1的質量為30,000太陽質量，這使它成為銀河系最大的疏散星團之一^[2]。

被觀測到的紅超巨星質量約為16-20太陽質量，是II型超新星的祖恆星^[2]。有超過200顆質量超過8 M_☉的主序星被檢測出來，因此可以從主序列擬合確定距離。已經確認的紅超巨星成員有14顆 ^[1]。
