背景

2017年10月6日，史密斯透過推特宣佈他的第二張專輯名為《痛快感受》，並將會于2017年11月3日發行^[5]。 這是史密斯在首張專輯《寂寞時分（英语：In the Lonely Hour）》獲得巨大成功后的第二張完整專輯，而前張專輯在全球有近1200萬的銷量。

史密斯在《告示牌》談論專輯時說：

「我經歷過像這樣的漩渦，出櫃后，我感覺我已將自己重建為一個更强大的東西，而我只是再次進入這個漩渦。」他在錄音過程的蒙太奇式片段中預覽專輯時說：「我在創作這專輯時並沒有打算將其變成極具流行的唱片。我其實只是嘗試創作一些個人化的東西，就像日記一樣。」^[6]

2018年3月27日，史密斯宣佈〈禱告（英语：Pray (Sam Smith song)）〉將作為第3支單曲，而美國饒舌歌手邏輯加入錄製作為伴唱藝人。歌曲于2018年3月29日發行^[8]。

宣傳單曲

2017年10月6日，史密斯發行與提姆巴蘭合作的福音歌謠〈禱告〉，作為專輯的宣傳單曲是受到慈善機構戰火兒童在伊拉克的時間花費^[3][9]。另外一首宣傳單曲〈煎熬（英语：Burning (Sam Smith song)）〉于2017年10月27日發行^[10]。
