瓦螨

瓦蟎（學名：Varroa destructor），又稱狄斯瓦蟎、蜂蟹蟎，是蜜蜂的体外寄生虫，卵圆扁平，红棕色，长1-1.2毫米，严重危害世界各地的西方蜜蜂（Apis mellifera）。瓦螨不但寄生在成蜂或幼虫上吸食体液，使其寿命缩短，而且还传播各种病毒和病菌。遭瓦蟎寄生的蜜蜂幼蟲羽化後常會有翅膀變形或沒有翅膀，使蜜蜂無法飛行，進而使整群蜜蜂的採集力下降，降低蜂蜜收成與蜂群越冬能力。

東方蜜蜂（Apis cerana）在自然界中是瓦螨的原始寄主，有抗螨机制：遭瓦蟎寄生的工蜂與雄蜂均會激烈的搖晃身體, 周圍的其他工蜂會過來清除瓦蟎, 咬断瓦螨的肢体，使其因失去体液而死亡。因此，東方蜜蜂雖遭到寄生但不致使整個蜂群受到太大伤害。西方蜜蜂被引入東方蜜蜂原始產地，使瓦螨轉移至西方蜜蜂寄生，進而傳播至全世界，對養蜂業造成嚴重的危害。
