劉麗杏，或稱為珍妮·劉（英語：Jane Luu，越南語：Lưu Lệ Hằng[2][3]，1963年7月—）是一位美國籍越南女性天文學家。

早年生活 编辑

劉麗杏生於1963年的越南共和国西貢（今胡志明市）[4]。她的父親是美國軍隊的翻譯人員。幼時她的父親曾教她法語。

劉麗杏和家人於1975年越南戰爭結束前夕逃亡美國，居住於已有親戚住在當地的肯塔基州。因為一次造訪喷气推进实验室的經驗讓她決定研究天文學 [5]。她後來於1984年在史丹佛大學獲得學士學位[6]。

研究生時期與共同發現首個柯伊伯带天體 编辑

劉麗杏在柏克萊加州大學[7]和麻省理工学院就讀研究所時和大衛·朱維特一起研究並發現了首個柯伊伯带天體[5]。她和大衛使用夏威夷大学設在毛納基山天文台的夏威夷大學88英吋望遠鏡（英语：UH88），在經歷了五年的觀測後，於1992年發現了繼冥王星與查龍之後（當時冥王星仍被視為行星）的第一個柯伊伯带天體[8]。該天體即為 (15760) 1992 QB1，並且被非正式稱為 "Smiley"[6]。

職業生涯 编辑

在獲得博士學位後，劉麗杏進入哈佛大學擔任教授[6]。她也曾經在荷蘭萊頓大學任教[5]。返回美國後她進入麻省理工學院林肯實驗室的儀器工程人員。

2004年12月劉麗杏和大衛公布，在當時所知最大的古柏帶天體创神星發現了冰晶體。另外還發現了氨水合物的跡象。該報告推測冰可能形成於創神星表面之下，在最近幾百萬年之內因為一次撞擊事件而暴露[9]。

劉麗杏喜歡旅行，並曾經在尼泊爾參加慈善團體「救助儿童会」的工作。她也喜歡多種戶外活動和演奏大提琴。她在荷蘭莱顿時遇到了她的丈夫，天文學家 Ronnie Hoogerwerf[5]。
