尤金·賴特

尤金·約瑟夫·賴特（英語：Eugene Joseph Wright，1923年5月29日—2020年12月30日）^[1][2]，或名金·賴特（Gene Wright），美國黑人爵士低音提琴手、樂團領袖，他曾是戴夫·布魯貝克四人樂隊（The Dave Brubeck Quartet）的一員，也是樂隊中唯一的黑人成員。

生平

賴特在高中時是一名短號手，並在20多歲時領導了一支由16人組成的爵士樂隊。在數年後，他對低音提琴有興趣，於是跟隨保羅·格雷戈里（Paul Gregory）和其他人學習低音提琴。賴特曾提到沃爾特·佩奇（Walter Page）是他的偶像。^[3]

賴特曾在戴夫·布魯貝克四人樂隊擔任低音提琴手，他於1958年加入並在1968年退出，與戴夫·布魯貝克（Dave Brubeck）﹑保羅·戴斯蒙（Paul Desmond）和喬·莫雷略（Joe Morello）一同演出。當賴特加入樂隊時，音樂會負責人不允許黑人音樂家與白人成員一同演出，但布魯貝克不同意讓其他低音提琴手代替賴特的位置，並讓賴特留在樂隊演出。他與樂隊一起錄製了30多張專輯。布魯貝克寫道，賴特的低音提琴演奏“讓樂隊紮根”，令他們能夠演奏其他節奏並完成即興部分，他不會從這個紮根的節拍中動搖。^[4]

離開布魯貝克的四人樂隊後，賴特於1969年和1970年率領自己的樂團巡迴多間黑人大學。^[5][6]他以靈活的獨奏和基調強勁的伴奏而聞名，他與許多音樂家合作，包括巴迪·科萊特（Buddy Collette）、文斯·葛拉迪（Vince Guaraldi）和朵洛西·多尼根（Dorothy Donegan）等。

在他的晚年，賴特擔任辛辛那提大學爵士樂系教授和國際低音提琴手協會會長。他是戴夫·布魯貝克四人樂隊中最後一位去世的核心成員。他於2020年12月30日在洛杉磯的一家養老院中去世，享年97歲。
