安大略省法務廳
安大略省法務廳[1]（英語：Ministry of the Solicitor General of Ontario，法語：Ministère du Solliciteur général de l'Ontario），前稱「安大略省社會安全及懲教廳」（Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional of Ontario），是安大略省政府的一個部門，負責公眾安全、執法與警務、應急管理、懲教及羈留中心（或監獄），以及監管安大略省省警（Ontario Provincial Police）、安大略省應急管理局（Emergency Management Ontario）及安大略省消防處（Ontario Fire Marshall）等法定機構。

歷史
執法及公眾安全
1972年之前，安大略省律政司及其監管的安大略省司法廳（Department of Justice of Ontario，現為安大略省律政廳［Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario］）負責該省的治安與公眾安全。
法務廳成立於1972年。雖然在1972年之前安大略省沒有法務廳長（Solicitor General），但上加拿大省（1791-1840）及加拿大省（1841-1867）都存在過法務司。隨著1972年安大略省政府的重組，這個長期休眠的職位重新設立。
懲教
收容所及監獄監察委員會（Board of Inspectors of Asylums and Prisons）於1859年首次建立，負責對聯合省（即東加拿大［魁北克］與西加拿大［安大略］）的61個公共機構進行一般監管。其中包括52座普通監獄、最大的單一類型機構、4間精神病人收容所（lunatic asylum）、2間醫院、2個感化監獄（reformatory prison）及一座大型監獄。委員會任命了五名監察員（inspector），每名監察員分配一個監察區（inspection district）。
加拿大聯邦成立後，《監獄及收容所監察法令》（Prisons and Asylums Inspection Act）於1868年3月4日通過。它將安大略省的所有上述類型的機構（總共49個）交予安大略省布政廳（Department of the Provincial Secretary）下屬的監獄及收容所監察員辦公室（Office of the Inspector of Prisons and Asylums）掌管。1868年6月20日，J.W. Langmuir被任命為該辦公室的第一任負責人。
1876 年，該辦公室更名為「監獄及公共慈善監察員辦公室」（Office of the Inspector of Prisons and Public Charities），並成為安大略省財政廳的一部分。1883年歸安省布政廳管轄。除監獄外，該署還負責監管各種具有社會服務功能的公共機構，如孤兒院、避護所、精神病人收容所及醫院。到1925年，監察員及他的工作人員負責監管380個機構。1927年至1934年間，省政府逐漸減少監察員辦公室職能，將其重新分配給更專業的部門。例如，慈善機構的管理職權於1930年9月移交予新成立的公共福利廳（Department of Public Welfare），醫院及療養院的職能於1930年10月移交予衞生廳（Department of Health）。

1946年，該局升格為廳級，成為George Drew總理內閣中的更生機構廳（Department of Reform Institutions）。第一任廳長是George Dunbar，他的第一個行動是在全省建立六個工作農場。[2]在接下來的十年中，其行政結構的發展反映了從懲罰性羈押到懲教服務的演變。1954年，增加了更生主任（director of rehabilitation）、首席假釋及更生官（chief parole and rehabilitation officer）以及首席心理學家（chief psychologist），隨後於1955年增加了神經病學及精神病學主任（director of neurology and psychiatry）。該部門內設立的其他辦事處及服務包括社工及教牧服務主任（director of social work and the chaplaincy services）。
1968年7月1日，該部門更名為懲教廳（Department of Correctional Services）。 第一任廳長為高仕民（Allan Grossman），他表示更名是為了更新服務，以反映對刑事機構態度的變化。監獄看守獲得了新制服，為他們的形象和外表中去軍事化。[3]
隨着1972年4月安大略省政府的重組，懲教廳由「Department of Correctional Services」更名為「Ministry of Correctional Services」。 它於 1972 年從安大略省律政廳接管了感化服務的職能。1977年，兒童服務科（Children's Services Division）劃歸社群及社會服務廳（Ministry of Community and Social Services）。1984年，隨著聯邦《青少年犯法令》（Young Offenders Act）的通過，該廳承擔了對16歲至17歲青少年犯羈留（detention）及假釋（parole）的責任。
兩個職能的合併
法務暨懲教廳（Ministry of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services）於1993年2月3日由法務廳（Ministry of the Solicitor General）與懲教廳（Ministry of Correctional Services）合併而成。這兩個職能在1999年至2002年間再次分離。
2002年4月，兩個職能再次合併，新成立的部門更名為公眾安寧及安全廳（Ministry of Public Safety and Security）。這是在2001年恐怖襲擊之後完成的。新的部門包括懲教服務以及對邊境安全的重新重視。[4]2003年，該部門更名為社會安全及懲教廳（Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services）。2019年4月，重新引入了法務廳長（Solicitor General）的角色，該部門的名稱由此恢復為法務廳（Ministry of the Solicitor General）。[5]
保安及私家偵探牌照
2010年，該廳開始對新申請人及現有的保安或私家偵探持牌人進行測試。在2010年之前，任何個人（只要其非曾被定罪且未獲赦）只需支付80加元即可獲得牌照。新的要求是在死因裁判官對Patrick Shand的死因進行調查後提出的。Patrick Shand在士嘉堡的一家Loblaws商店被一名未經訓練的私人保安及工作人員看管時死於窒息。儘管連鎖店有禁止對入店行竊者使用武力的政策，Shand還是被約制（restrain）並戴上手銬。當Shand呼吸停止後，工作人員不得不為他施行心肺復蘇術時，Shand仍然戴着手銬。直到撥打911緊急電話18分鐘後，Shand被送上救護車，此時手銬才被取下。[6]
根據調查的建議，保安或私家偵探牌照的申請人必須通過40小時的培訓課程，然後參加考試。62.5%是保安的及格分數線，77%是私家偵探的及格分數線。
