阿瑟·库斯勒
阿瑟·库斯勒，CBE（匈牙利語：Arthur Koestler，1905年9月5日—1983年3月3日），匈牙利犹太裔英国作家、记者和批评家。库斯勒是前共产党员，出于对苏联大清洗的反思，他的思想逐渐趋向自由主义，并最终写出指斥大清洗、控诉斯大林主义的西方文学史上著名的政治小说《中午的黑暗》。
生平 编辑
阿瑟·库斯勒生于布达佩斯，初名Kösztler Artúr。其父亨瑞克(Henrik)是一富足的企业家和发明家，他發明的健康肥皂远近闻名。库斯勒14岁时移居维也纳，后在维也纳大学学习工程学和心理学。大学毕业前一月，他烧了大学入学许可书，并放弃结业考试。当时犹太人正大批向英国托管下的巴勒斯坦移居，库斯勒也加入了这一行列，1926年至1929年，他先后居住在Heftzibah、特拉维夫、耶路撒冷。离开巴勒斯坦后，他成为德国乌尔斯坦报系(Ullstein-Verlag group of German newspapers)的一名记者。
1931年库斯勒加入德国共产党，但1938年莫斯科之旅后退出。西班牙内战期间，他作为伦敦《新闻纪事报》（News Chronicle）记者，在法西斯军占领下的马拉加省被捕获，判处死刑，不久又获赦免，由此，库斯勒写了《与死亡对话》，反映出一个面对命运者的心态。二战爆发后，库斯勒从一个法国拘留营（Vernet Internment Camp）逃出，一番曲折后抵达英国，不期再度入狱。他后来说：“（英国）本顿维尔监狱是我的最爱。”
1940年创作并出版杰作《中午的黑暗》，小说通过主人公鲁巴肖夫与提审员的三次论辩和紧张思考，集中探讨了政治革命的崇高“目的”与所采取的“手段”之间的矛盾，写出了一场伟大政治革命的复杂历程。这部小说在兰登书屋“现代文库”评选的“20世纪100部最佳英文小说”中，名列第8位。英译本于1941年初版。中国大陆译本有：《中午的黑暗》（作家出版社，董乐山，1988年；译林出版社，1999年）；台湾译本有《狱中记》（自由中国社，李诰，1950年）。
1941年2月，库斯勒在弗雷德里克·沃伯格的安排下，和乔治·奥威尔结识。奥威尔对《中午的黑暗》的评价：“其最具价值之处，很可能在于它是一份莫斯科‘招供’的解释，由一个从内部了解极权主义手段的人所写。”
1983年，不堪多年帕金森综合症和白血病的折磨，库斯勒和妻子辛西娅（Cynthia）选择服药自尽。库斯勒的遗嘱包含了希望能以他遗产在英国设立一个超心理学教席，以促进该领域的研究。最后他委托的基金会与爱丁堡大学达成协议。
