背景和发行

在正式发行之前，《I Could Be the One》的名字一直在经历各种变化。歌曲最初并没有名字，2011年11月18日，艾维奇在美国华盛顿DC军工厂的Super Glow上首次演唱了该歌曲。后歌曲被命名为《Nicktim》，即两位制作人的名字组合（“Nick” Rotteveel及“Tim” Bergling）^[3]。《I Could Be the One》伴奏版包含一段Justice（英语：Justice (band)）乐队的《D.A.N.C.E.（英语：D.A.N.C.E.）》节录部分，后来此部分在最终版本中被删除^[3]。

2012年12月24日，《I Could Be the One》首次在YouTube上发布了一段音乐视频，视频总长度为4分46秒^[10]。该片由彼得·黄（Peter Huang）执导，并获得了2013年青年导演奖（Young Director Award）非欧洲音乐视频一等奖^[11]。

伊妮莎·弗兰托夫斯基（Inessa Frantowski）在视频中饰演一位在办公室工作的女性^[12]。她很讨厌自己的工作，讨厌早上的例行公事和同事们的态度。接下来她在房间里醒来，旁边是一个用过的避孕套，一个男人躺在床上。当她打开房门时，看到了阳台和美丽的海滩。她在房间里找到一份“待办事项清单”，唯一的“工作”就是“不要跟他做爱”。还有几张她自得其乐的照片：在海滩上散步；摧毁了一个小女孩的沙堡（并伸出手指）；在餐馆里吃了点食物，然后亲吻服务员；在俱乐部里和一个男人跳舞，然后在游艇上与他发生性关系。然后她在自己公寓醒来，所有的一切都是一场梦。她去看心理医生，医生只给她开了“更多的药片”。回到办公室，她坐在办公桌前，听着同事们平淡的谈话。最后，她疯狂地开始破坏办公室，到处乱扔文件，毁坏了一台传真机，侮辱和攻击几个同事，然后冲出了办公室大门。最后一幕是她用手机预订去巴巴多斯的单程机票。当她穿过马路走向轿车时，她被一辆车牌为2Late的送货车撞倒。她能否活下来还不得而知^[12]。
