页面构造原理是书籍设计中用来描述页面比例, 书籍中空白和文字区域的构成的一套原则.

在20世纪中末期 扬·奇肖尔德 在前人 J. A. van de Graaf, Raúl M. Rosarivo, Hans Kayser 等人的基础上, 普及了书籍页面构成原理的概念. [1]

排版人员和书籍设计者将这些原理沿用至今, 并对这些原理进行了一些改变以适用于标准纸张和各种商业书籍.[2]

范德格拉夫(Van de Graaf)提出古腾堡(德国活版印刷发明者)和其他人如何将书页划分为九分之一和九分之二的空白并且使得文字区和整个页面的长宽具有相同的比例.

范德格拉夫原理重构了曾经用于书籍设计中将页面划分为较为舒适比例的方法. [3] 这一原理也被称为"秘密原理", 用于许多中世纪的手稿和古板书中.
