西哥特王国

西哥特王国（拉丁语：Hispania Visigothica；英語：Kingdom of the Visigoths），从5世纪到8世纪，由西哥特人在罗马帝国阿基坦高卢行省境内创建并扩张到整个伊比利亚半岛的一个王国。

公元374年，匈人從中亞經里海進入頓河、第聶伯河流域，征服那裏的阿蘭人和東哥特人，接著向黑海北岸的西哥特人進攻，迫使約一萬五千名西哥特人在東部羅馬皇帝瓦倫斯的允許下，于376年渡過多瑙河，向巴爾幹半島遷移，定居於羅馬帝國境內，作為同盟者為羅馬帝國御邊。378年，西哥特人不堪忍受羅馬人的奴役，舉行武裝起義，在阿德里安堡戰役擊敗並殺死東部羅馬皇帝瓦倫斯。之後的皇帝狄奧多西一世為安撫西哥特人，將他們安置於帝國邊境，同時利用他們戍邊。

但是狄奧多西一世於395年去世後，西哥特人隨即斷絕了他們與羅馬的同盟關係，推舉亞拉里克為國王。亞拉里克率領西哥特人進入希臘半島，洗劫了科林斯、阿爾戈斯和斯巴達等重要城市，401年，東羅馬帝國皇帝阿卡狄奧斯以割讓伊利里亞行省和大量金錢為條件，使西哥特人同意不再騷擾東部羅馬，西哥特人在首領亚拉里克領導下，轉往西羅馬帝國侵入意大利，其最初被西羅馬的日耳曼將軍斯提里科擊敗，然而其後西羅馬皇帝霍諾留斯聽信讒言將斯提里科處決，此舉大大激怒了斯提里科麾下能征善戰的日耳曼士兵，結果使他們幾乎全加入了亞拉里克的隊伍，亚拉里克便在四萬奴隸和數萬蠻族出身的羅馬士兵配合下，於在410年攻占羅馬城，大肆劫掠三日後離去，419年，西哥特人在阿基坦高盧和那旁高卢和伊比利亚半岛，以土魯斯為中心建立第一個得到羅馬帝國承認的蠻族王國，西哥德王國。

公元507年，西哥特人被克洛維一世領導下的法蘭克人擊敗，喪失了阿基坦地區的控制權，退出了高盧 。

6世紀的伊比利亞半島在西哥特人的統治下沒有發生地震式的政治事件。伊比利亞半島上的國王們在保留羅馬的舊有行政方式上比墨洛溫王朝統治者們更成功些，特別是在估稅和收稅方面。他們在統治早期比墨洛溫王朝缺乏一個宗教方面的重要優勢，因為信奉亞流派的西哥德統治者與信奉天主教的西班牙－羅馬人以及猶太教臣民在信仰上並不統一。

西哥特王國於570年代起至620年代从东罗马帝国手中逐漸收回伊比利亚半岛沿岸地区，後來权利和财富渐渐流入强势的地方贵族手中。公元711年，倭马亚王朝入侵伊比利亚半岛，公元714年被阿拉伯帝國攻滅，西哥特王國滅亡。
