樂隊最初成立於Heather Baron-Gracie與Ciara Doran的大學時期，二人組成Creek樂隊之後，主奏結他手Hugo Silvani和低音結他手Charlie Wood加入，形成了現在的陣容。[1]

2014年 - 2017年: 成立初期 编辑

樂隊原名是Creek[5]，是主唱兼節奏結他手Heather Baron-Gracie和鼓手Ciara Doran在曼徹斯特就讀英國及愛爾蘭現代音樂學院（英语：British and Irish Modern Music Institute）時[6]共同成立的。兩人自那時起便合作完成了幾乎全部歌的創作，Heather負責寫詞，Ciara負責製作。[7] 主奏結他手Ben Bateman和低音結他手Ryan Marsden隨後加入，完成了樂隊陣容，更名為Pale Waves，但他們很快便退出了，並由現在的主奏結他手Hugo Silvani 和低音結他手Charlie Wood作替補。[8]2015年，樂隊與製作團隊Sugar House錄製了Demo，吸引了獨立音樂廠牌Dirty Hit的注意，並在2017年與樂隊簽約。[8]

2018年4月6日，樂隊與唱片公司Interscope Records簽約，會與Dirty Hit合資發行音樂作品。[20]

2018年5月15日，樂隊發佈第三首單曲《Kiss》，6月28日發佈第四首單曲《Noises》，均收錄在首張錄音室專輯 《My Mind Makes Noises（英语：My Mind Makes Noises）》中。

2018年9月初，在與NME雜誌的訪問中，樂隊透露他們正在製作第二張迷你專輯。Heather指出這張迷你專輯將會傾向流行龐克和搖滾樂，並會觸及政治、包容和性等議題。[21]2018年9月14日，樂隊發行首張錄音室專輯《My Mind Makes Noises（英语：My Mind Makes Noises）》，在英國專輯排行榜上獲得第八名。[3]

2019年 - 至今: 車禍事件、《Who Am I?》 编辑

2019年5月，與NME雜誌的對話中，Heather重談第二張迷你專輯的製作進度，說樂隊有很多曲目，他們會將收錄曲目縮減到五、六首，其餘的則可能會出現在錄音室專輯中。[22] 然而，9月時，樂隊宣佈他們將不製作迷你專輯，而是專注於製作第二張錄音室專輯。[23]

2019年10月17日，樂隊在Q Awards（英语：Q Awards 2019）上贏得了Q Best Breakthrough Act。

2020年1月，樂隊釋出與Lawrence Rothman（英语：Lawrence Rothman）合作的電影The Turning（英语：The Turning (2020 film)）的官方電影配樂《SkinDeepSkyHighHeartWide》。

2020年3月，樂隊在柏林去替海爾希的歐洲巡演助演的路途中發生了交通事故。他們所乘坐的旅游巴士滑出結冰的路面、側翻滾入路邊的渠溝，把成員和工作人員們困在巴士中。他們最後安全逃脫並無生命危險，僅造成輕傷。[24]當時只有三位成員在巴士上，包括鼓手Ciara、吉他手Hugo和低音結他手Charlie。主唱Heather則因爲對長途駕車擔憂及警惕，提前在女朋友陪同下飛到了德國，她曾懇求其他成員也這樣做。[7] Heather表示自己永遠不會忘記Ciara事故時來電的聲音，因爲從沒聽過他們的聲音像那樣。她形容道「你知道在電影中，垂死的人嘴中流出血但仍有話想說，是怎樣的嗎？他們聽起來就是那樣，我當時心想『我的天哪，他們要死了』。」[25]事後，Ciara在Instagram發文講述事故：「這是我經歷過最恐怖的事之一，我們真的以爲我們要死掉。事故造成的傷勢會復原，但這(留下的陰影)會永遠伴隨我們」。[24]Heather則因沒有在巴士上與成員們一同經歷事故，感到非常内疚，「我很大程度上是這個樂隊的領導者 …… 我當時應該要在那裏向他們提供幫助的。但是，我沒有。」她說。[25]車禍的發生令成員們需要時間休息來平撫身體和心理上的創傷，取消了數場原定計劃了的演出。加上一個月後爆發冠狀病毒疫情，給予了成員時間和空間去消化事故及暫別忙碌的巡演工作，同時押後了第二張錄音室專輯的正式發行。[25]

2020年11月10日，樂隊回歸，發佈了第二張錄音室專輯《Who am I?》的主打單曲《Change》[26]，被Annie Mac命名爲全球最熱門唱片。[27]《Change》的單曲封面照是一隻破繭而出後自信張開翅膀的蝴蝶，這首歌與其他專輯收錄歌曲如《Easy》和《She is My Religion》的MV都融入了「蝴蝶」的概念在其中。這象徵著樂隊在各方面上，包括歌詞、風格及最重要的情感上的「重生」。[7]Heather形容這張專輯是他們「創造過最好的東西」，有別於第一張專輯。[28] 2020年12月15日，樂隊發佈專輯《Who am I?》的第二首單曲"She's My Religion"。

2021年2月12日，樂隊正式發行第二張錄音室專輯《Who am I?》，在英國專輯排行榜上獲得第三名。[4]專輯錄製是在車禍後不到一個月的疫情期間、特朗普旅行禁令生效前匆忙抵達美國洛杉磯，並被隔離數周後才開始與製作人Rich Costey（英语：Rich Costey）進行的。Hugo和Charlie因長期與家人和伴侶分隔感到不安，提早返回英國在家中遙距錄製他們的部分，Heather和Ciara則留在美國。[7]
