早年生活

希兰的父親是位藝術展策展人與講師，母親是珠寶設計師，兩人共同開了間藝術顧問事務所，從1990年起持續了25年的光陰。哥哥是位古典音樂作曲家。希兰的父親有愛爾蘭血統，家裡虔誠信仰天主教。希兰也因此很早就受音樂薰陶，在四歲時就加入了教堂的合唱團，並在晚些接觸了吉他。在中學時期開始嘗試寫歌寫曲。

爭議事件

2015年，艾德於英國倫敦溫布萊球場舉行演唱會，8萬張門票火速售完。其成功引起前Oasis成員Noel Gallagher不滿，除了質疑艾德的成就，也似在暗示欣賞他演唱會的觀眾沒眼光，批評「樂壇正倒退至八零年代一樣」。^[15]艾德其後在推特留言反駁，稱十分享受現狀。^[16]
