沃爾特·比德爾·史密斯

沃爾特·比德爾·“甲壳虫”·史密斯（英語：Walter Bedell "Beetle" Smith，1895年10月5日－1961年8月9日）是美国陆军退役四星上将、政治家、外交官、中情局局長。他曾在突尼斯战役和入侵義大利期間擔任盟軍司令部（英语：Allied Force Headquarters）艾森豪威尔将军的参谋长。后在1944年到1945年，為歐洲盟軍遠征軍最高司令部艾森豪威尔總帥的参谋长。1946年任駐蘇聯大使，1949年任第1集團軍司令；1950年任美國中央情報局局長，1954年退休。

生平

1911年，史密斯以二等兵军阶在印第安纳州国民警卫队入伍。 在第一次世界大战期间，他于1917年任官為少尉并於1918年在第二次马恩河战役中受伤。战争结束后，他成为美国陆军步兵学校（也称本宁堡步兵学校）的参谋及讲师。1941年，他成为陆军总参谋秘书，第二年他成为“联合参谋长团”（Combined Chiefs of Staff）的秘书. 他的职责包括参与最高级别的讨论，史密斯还常向罗斯福总统汇报战略部署。
