史蒂芬·艾梅爾一開始只有出演《但丁灣（英语：Dante's Cove）》、《同志亦凡人》等電視劇。2007年，他贏得了擔任主角的客人《再生（英语：ReGenesis）》的雙子座獎^[6]。同年，他還被提名為《Rent-a-Goalie（英语：Rent-a-Goalie）》雙子座獎中的最佳全體演員類。2012年1月，艾梅爾在CW的電視劇《綠箭俠》系列主演漫畫英雄角色奥利佛·昆恩／綠箭俠，就此成名。

2015年3月，宣布他將於《忍者龜：變種世代》的2016年續集《忍者龜：破影而出》中飾演凱西·瓊斯^[7]。
