原始克伦语
构拟 编辑
1946年，奥德里库尔构拟了初步的原始克伦语，并于1953年和1975年进行了部分修订。 奥德里库尔将比较法应用于波克伦语和斯高克伦语两种克伦语，数据来自W. C. B. Purser和Saya Tun Aung的《波克伦语方言比较词典》（1922）。 每种语言都有6个声调，4个在开音节中，2个是入声并以声门塞音结尾。 通过比较这些声调间对应的词汇，奥德里库尔建立了8个对应集，后来戈登·卢斯（Gordon Luce）将其分别称为I到VIII调，其中有6个在开音节，2个是入声。 两种语言的声母很相似，塞音区分送气、不送气和内爆音对立，且只有浊响音。 内爆音和响音可以直接对应，送气和不送气则可以分出3种对应的情况。 这些特殊对应只出现在2个特定的声调：[1]:33, 35[2]:5–7, 12–13[3]:328–329

可以发现，这些对应与东南亚语言联盟语言符合，包括台语支、苗瑶语系、越南语和汉语方言，其中由早期韵尾发展而来的4调系统依声母清浊分化。 平声的分化在台语和汉语中也存在。[1]:33[2]:7 奥德里库尔的构拟被后来的田野调查所支持，特别是浊塞音和清鼻音仍被格巴克伦语等克伦语保持。[1]:30, 32 Manson给出用于将克伦语分类的田野调查的代表词表：[4]:19

奥德里库尔一开始认为V类不规则，只构拟了*A、*B和*D3个原始声调。 他在1975年的修订中加入了*B'调。[1]:33–35[2]:12–13[5]:326–327
这个*B'调被大多数现代克伦语学者接受，但不包含于塞若芬的构拟。[1]:36 这个调类不与*B调在浊声母后对立，相似的合流常见于汉语方言（即去声不分阴阳）。[1]:35
V类不在任何现代克伦语中为独立调类，在斯高克伦语和勃欧语中与*A合流，波克伦语中与*B合流，Kayan、Kayaw和Kaya克伦语中与*D合流，波-格巴克伦语中与B*和D*合流。[4]:16
塞若芬认为V类反映更早期的某个语素，这个观点奥德里库尔也提出过。[1]:36

大多数语言学家接受奥德里库尔拟音的修订版，开音节有*A （平声）、*B和*B'3种声调，闭音节为单独的入声*D。[1]:36 不过塞若芬只接受*A、*B和*D。[6]:xiv
